Windsurfing Axiom
It doesn't matter where you are, even here on Maui, you arrive and the wind is blowing, oh, let's say 5.0. You rig your 5.0. It's been blowing 5.0 most of the day. You get on the water and what happens? Either the wind dies or it cranks up a notch or two. In today's case, it cranked up a notch. The 5.0 was great from about 3:00 to 3:10. Then that fickle wind god thought it might be funny to turn it up. Held on to the 5.0 for a bit, but it became obvious if I was going to have fun, I needed to be on the4.5. The 4.5 was pretty powered up, but much better. The water inside the reef was pretty choppy. The north swell we had last weekend is gone. Though we mere mortals were on mid 4s, Kevin Pritchard and Phil McGain showed up along with some other racer guys to blast around on big sails and slalom gear - no doubt practicing for this Saturday's race. Pretty fun afternoon of sailing. Just wish I could figure out ahead of time what the wind is going to do. Ah, don't we all.
