No good windsurfing news to report. Last Monday was the last day of even marginally sailable wind. This week has been characterized by very light winds, and lots of clouds here on Maui. Kauai and Oahu are getting super-saturated with heavy rains. Luckily we've missed out on the heavy rains here on Maui. But that's not much consolation for the wind-starved. Today might have been almost sailable for the super-desparate with really, really big gear - formula gear. I wish I could report a change for the better this coming week, but after just going through all the weather sources it looks like we're going to have our pesky low pressure to our west continuing to spin up moisture from our south and no trade winds. The poor guys at the weather office aren't painting a very rosy forecast for the next 5 days or more.

  • Ho'okipa was sailable yesterday between around noon and 3 pm, a bit too onshore, smallish waves, 5.0 - 5.3 sail best choice. Just checked windfinder and we might get some Kona's on Thursday.

  • We sailed trades on Sunday and Konas today. Keep an eye on Kihei, it can happen anytime. Trades will return by Saturday no later then Sunday. I have commanded it!

  • Thanks for the report guys. Norm, I have a report from a very good source that you were "sailing" Kanaha Saturday without a harness. And Berndt too! Must have been quite a workout to hang on in those strong winds without a harness! ;-) I'm sure you guys were having fun though and that's all that matters. Thanks for the wind commandment by the way. Looks like our best shot of wind next might be some Konas later this week.

  • I was just checking your weather links here and on mauiwindsurfing.net. You can get the airport wind (updated much more often than hourly) at 877-6282. wunderground.com's page for Kahului is an easy way to see a NOAA 7-day forecast, the radar map, the marine forecast, the technical discussion, etc all in one place.

  • One more thing: Over the last 5 years of not leaving the island the longest windless stretch I have experienced was 16 days, although one winter there were two stretches of 14 days. Food for thought!
